What actually separates them

On the surface these apps look alike: catalog cigars, note what you thought, track a humidor. The differences that matter show up once a collection gets past about forty sticks.

Whether aging is tracked per purchase

Most apps store a quantity per cigar. That breaks the moment you rebuy: a box from March and a box from last week become one pile of ten, and the aging information is gone. Cedar tracks each purchase as its own lot with its own clock. None of the other listings state that they do — which is not proof they do not, but it is not something you would leave out of a description if you had it.

What the free tier really covers

This is where the gap is widest and least advertised. Puro's listing states its free tier covers your first humidor, your first cigar and your first smoking session — effectively a demo. Cedar's free tier is 20 cigars, a humidor with unlimited condition logging and five band scans, which is enough to run a small collection indefinitely. The others do not state a limit, so assume you will hit one and check before committing a catalogue.

Whether you can leave

A collection record is worth having only if it outlives the app. Cedar exports lossless JSON free on every tier, and CSV and PDF with Pro. Humidor Journal Pro and Puro both list CSV. My Humidor and Cigarbase do not mention export at all.

Sensors versus manual readings

Humidor Journal Pro integrates Govee sensors for live humidity, which is a real advantage if you already own them. Cedar deliberately does not talk to sensors — you enter readings from whatever hygrometer you have, which keeps it working with an analogue gauge and immune to a manufacturer retiring an API. Which is better depends entirely on what is already in your humidor.

Best established, best reviewed: My Humidor

4.8 stars across 466 ratings is far more track record than anything else here, and it is built around offline journaling. If what you want is to record impressions of cigars and you are not fussed about inventory depth or getting data out, it is the safe pick.

Best for live humidity from sensors: Humidor Journal Pro

If you own Govee sensors, it is the only app in this set whose listing describes reading them live. It also covers journaling, aging and CSV export.

Best for inventory depth and getting data out: Cedar

Ours, so weigh it accordingly. Cedar is built around the collection rather than the session: per-purchase lots with independent aging clocks, cost against MSRP, multiple humidors with their own target ranges, free JSON export, and a web app. It is the right choice if your collection has outgrown a list and you want the record to be portable. It is the wrong choice if you mainly want to journal smokes on your phone — that is a web-only feature in Cedar.

Newest and least proven: Cigarbase

Two ratings at the time of writing. The AI scanning focus is interesting, but there is not enough of a track record to recommend committing a collection to it yet.

Before you pick one

Three questions worth asking of any of them, including ours:

• What happens when I buy the same cigar twice — does the app still know which box is older?
• How many entries does the free tier allow before I have to pay?
• Can I export everything, and in what format?

The answers determine whether you still have a usable record in three years, and they are rarely on the screenshot.
